Tribal fight injuries costly

HOSPITALS and health centres in Enga are to charge K10,000 to treat a person sustaining injuries from tribal fighting.
This was made known last Friday at Wabag town by provincial police commander Chief Supt Joseph Tondop after the launch of “say no to tribal fight, any form of violence, violence against women and children and HIV/Aids.
Tondop said this arrangement would become a law and that would give people the option to choose whether to fight and pay K10,000 or to give up.
He said people sustaining injuries in tribal fighting should face a tough process so that it would teach them a lesson.
“We cannot just allow them to come and receive treatment and then go out, repeat the same mistake over and over.
“Tribal fight should not become a culture or should be passed on from generation to generation. We have to cut that connection so we can be free,” Tondop said.
He said people seemed to become ignorant and always stuck to their tribal fighting mentality.
“My idea is that health facilities should be charging a fee of K10,000 to tribal fighting victims before he or she can be treated,” Tondop said.
Governor Sir Peter Ipatas said that he supportthe idea and would try to make it become a law.
Sir Peter said the provincial government would seek legal advice to make the change become law.
