Troops, group receive grillers

A GESTURE of appreciation was shown to the troops of the Engineering Battalion at Igam Barracks who receive five barbecue grill by commanding officer Lt Col Bruno Malau yesterday.
The grillers were given to the Alpha, Bravo, Support company, the Battalion HQ-Training Cell companies and one to the mothers’ club.
Malau told The National that the grillers were Christmas presents for the troops for their contributions last year.
He said they deserved something better in hosting barbecues.
They could use them for fundraising as well.
“This is a token of appreciation from the battalion headquarters to the troops,” Malau said.
He said the money for the grillers came from administration funds and were bought at BNBM.
Malau said in 2018 the Engineering Battalion administration also provided lawn mowers to the companies.
“This is in appreciation for their support to the battalion as the members of the battalion who are actually deployed abroad and also on projects in the country.
“The mothers always are the backbone of getting the house in order while their husbands are out there in operations.
“So this is an appreciation.”
He said 2020 would be another busy year for the battalion with 96 of its members currently part of Kumul Force 17 in Melbourne assisting in the bush fire relief efforts.
Malau said the battalion would have its induction training next week.
