Trukai fun run launched

THE 2010 Trukai Olympic Day Fun Run was officially launched at Royal Papua Yacht Club gantry in Port Moresby yesterday.
When launching the major fundraiser for the PNG Sports Federation and Olympic Committee (PNGSFOC), senior vice-president Mel Donald thanked Trukai Industries Limited for their continued support in sponsoring the 90,000 T-shirts.
She said the Fun Run was the biggest fundraising event for Team PNG to the four-year cycle of international games that include the Pacific Mini Games, Commonwealth Games, Pacific Games and the Olympic Games.
This year’s proceeds from the fun run auctions will go towards Team PNG’s preparation and participation at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India from Oct 3-14.
“As responsible corporate citizens, Trukai Industries Limited has partnered once again with the PNGSFOC to print HIV messages on the Trukai Olympic Day Fun Run T-shirts encouraging voluntary counselling and testing (VCT),” she said.
Donald said 90,000 VCT referral cards would also be inserted in the T-shirt packets with the clear message of “Act now on HIV that is  your status with voluntary counselling and testing.
She is appealing to all runners to take the bold step.
PNGSFOC secretary-general Sir John Dawanincura said the launch of the Trukai Olympic Day Fun Run T-shirts was the start of gaining support from the corporate sector to support Team PNG to the Commonwealth Games
He said he hoped to raise K600,000 from the auction in both Lae (April 14) and Port Moresby (April 15) and the actual Fun Run date is Aug 2 where 12 to 15 centres are expected to take part in the activity.
Trukai Industries manager (marketing) Pamela Penrose acknowledged the company’s involvement with PNG Sports Federation and Olympic Committee for the past 11 years.
