Trukai Industries Limited on Friday presented the Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee a cheque for K500,000 to support Team PNG at the Samoa Pacific Games, which start on Sunday.
The presentation follows money raised by Trukai at this year’s Fun Run.
Trukai Industries general manager, sales and marketing, Andrew Daubney, said 93,000 Fun Run shirts were sold for the event.
“We all spend a lot of effort doing the Fun Run every year and the fruits of that effort is fantastic because we get to hand over a cheque of K500,000 to Team PNG to take PNG’s athletes over to Samoa,” Daubney said.
Team PNG chef de mission Emma Waiwai thanked Trukai for their ongoing support towards local athletes.
“Thank you very much, your support goes a long way towards our preparations,” she told Trukai.
“And certainly for this year, it has really helped us for the Pacific Games.
“We are taking a big team, they are all ready to go and perform at their best and this will help motivate them.”
Along with the money, Trukai is also donating 125 bags (1.25 tonnes worth K5,000) of rice to Team PNG to take to Samoa.
