THE Papua New Guinea Olympic Committee and Trukai Industries yesterday launched the 24th edition of Trukai Fun Run, one of Team PNG’s biggest fundraising event.
With the Paris Olympic Games set for July 26-Aug 11, the Fun Run event has been brought forward to June 23 with two T-shirt auctions set for Lae and Port Moresby respectively on April 17 and 19.
All proceeds from the T-shirt sales as well as the auction and the Fun Run committee’s new corporate package approach will go towards supporting Team PNG in their campaign in Paris.
Participants will join in eight locations across the country in Port Moresby, Lae, Mt. Hagen, Goroka, Wewak, Tabubil, Lihir and Popondetta coinciding with the event’s Theme: “Our Steps, Their Dreams”.
PNGOC president Sir John Dawanincura, who has been involved since the inception of the event, thanked Trukai for their continued support saying it was a “very successful partnership over the last 23 years”.
Apart from the funds raised from the auction and the corporate packages for business houses, Trukai donated 40,000 shirts to PNGOC which would be retailed in selected outlets for K25 a piece.
“Our athletes and officials have been working tirelessly to prepare for the Olympic Games,” Sir John said.
“It’s our priority to ensure that they have all the necessary resources to assist them on their journey to represent PNG in the international sporting arena.
“Let us support their dreams with every step we take in the Fun Run event,” said the Olympic committee president.
Meanwhile, Trukai’s marketing manager Maryanne Tom called on the public to support the cause by purchasing T-shirts to back Team PNG in their campaign at the Olympics.
Meanwhile, yesterday’s launch unveiled the 2024 Trukai Fun Run T-shirt design, building excitement for the main event scheduled for June 23.
Business houses can buy three different packages of Fun Run T-shirts, along with free branding and visibility benefits in the new corporate package, including advantages such as discount vouchers and advertising spaces by PNG Olympic Committee’s partners, Trukai, Trophy Haus and The National.
