Tubusereia brothers to carry table tennis hopes

TABLE tennis aces David and Geoffrey Loi carry the country’s medal hopes at the 16th Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa.
The brothers from Tubusereia, Central, attended a three-month training programme in China last year and are keen to put their skills to the test alongside the other five members of the national table-tennis team.
Ten nations will compete for medals in 11 events, including para table tennis, at the Games.
The first three days of competition will feature the men’s and women’s team events, with medal matches on Wednesday.
From Thursday, the singles, doubles and para events will take centre stage, with medal matches on Saturday.
The para programme will feature both men’s and women’s ambulant and seated events, which Tubusereia veteran Haoda Agari taking part.
Last time at the Port Moresby 2015 Games, Tahiti dominated the tournament, winning seven of 11 gold medals.
Tahiti won top honours in the team, mixed doubles, men’s and women’s doubles and both singles events.
Table tennis begins at 9am (Samoa time) today at Harvest Centre and runs for six days.
