InterOil Corporation in partnership with the Papua New Guinea Rugby Football Union will send a development side, the Turagus, to the Singapore 7s next week.

The side which will be called the InterOil Turagus, comprises current PNG 7s players with several new faces.

The side, who travels next Wednesday, displayed new uniforms at the Sir Hubert Murray Stadium in Konedobu, Port Moresby and were in the company of InterOil senior management.

Coach Douglas Guise said the 15-man squad to the Oct 28-31 tournament would be looking to cement spots in the national side for the last major event of the year – the Oceania 7s in New Zealand next month.

“To select this squad, I had looked outside the box and pick players from rugby league and even touch footy,” Guise said.

“We assembled this squad after the national 7s championships and they’ve been training hard over the last two weeks.”

He described the team Turagus as the pathway to the Pukpuks.

“There are national players in the squad but half of the team is new and the trip will give them more international exposure.

“After Singapore, we will finalise the squad for the Olympic Qualifiers in Auckland next month. It will also be a qualifier for the Wellington and Hong Kong 7s.”

“The Hong Kong tournament is a qualification tournament for the World Series,” he said.

Turagus: Tisa Kautu, Buttler Morris, Billy Torea, Henry Kalua, Stanis Susuve, Arthur Clement, Hensley Peter, Wesley Vali (PNG 7s), William Tirang, Robin Loma, Lawrence Kuso Jr, Emmanuel Guise, Paul Nelson, Koroseta Veni, George Morseu (new).
