AUSTRALIAN Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull says his visit to Papua New Guinea has been successful.
Turnbull arrived in the country on Friday and left for India yesterday.
He told journalists yesterday that he had practical discussions with Prime Minister Peter O’Neill.
“Our economic relationship and our relationship in every respect gets stronger and stronger,” Turnbull said.
“But more practical discussions with Prime Minister O’Neill and his ministers and of course, our engagement with PNG.
“Our high commissioner (to PNG Bruce Davis) and of course his team are doing an outstanding job in ensuring that Australia is always there to support PNG in its development and securing its future.”
He also noted the sacrifice of Australians and Papua New Guineans more than seven decades ago.
“We thank those men and women (for the) endurance and sacrifice they showed in those dark years.”
