TUSBAB Stallions are facing the possibility of sitting out the upcoming National Soccer League (NSL) season due to continued financial constraints, according to club executive Conrad Wadunah.
He told The National that the cost of having the Stallions based outside of Madang last season under the Covid-19 rules, was an expensive exercise for the club.
“Finance is our biggest issue, we are not financially sound to go into the new season,” Wadunah said.
“We would like to have some support.
“We would like to call for sponsors who can help us take part in the new season. We have a development squad of young players who we train and help.
“We hope backers can come on board to continue our participation in the NSL.”
Wadunah called on local business houses to help with the club’s registration and affiliation fees with the PNG Football Association (PNGFA) giving until the end of this week for clubs to submit their expressions of interest (EOI) and pay a non-refundable fee of K10,000.
PNGFA has also asked clubs to pay a full annual affiliation fee of K80,000 before next Friday.
Last season, the Madang-based Stallions climbed into top half of the ladder in the early rounds, however, the departure of key personnel and no home games saw them finish sixth. The disruption of the NSL due to Covid-19 in March last year saw the Stallions play away from home in closed-door matches when the competition resumed four months later.
