National Capital District students attending Technical and Vocational Education and Training institutions in Port Moresby and elsewhere had their funding delivered yesterday.
A cheque presentation to Tvet partnership institutions was done at the Caritas Girls’ Technical Secondary School Hall in Port Moresby yesterday.
The funding will also reach NCD students at partner institutions in other provinces. Funding worth K5 million were presented to 43 institutions under the NCD school subsidiary programme and the Moresby South district services improvement programme funds.
This came through the leadership of NCD Governor Powes Pakop and Moresby South MP Justin Tkatchenko.
According to Pakop, this is the 11th year of the Tvet scholarship programme.
“The goal is to reach out to all the districts, provinces and local level electorates throughout the country,” Pakop told the guests.
“Over K40 million so far have been put into this programme, reaching out to 38,000 children, young, old men and women over the past decade.
“Another K30 million were spent on urban youth programmes, with an additional K10 million funded by the Australian government recently.
“The challenge we face every day is when we realise that more funding are swept under for physical infrastructural buildings but not much into human capital.
“Therefore, the purpose of this programme is to make a difference by capitalising on our youths today for tomorrow’s future.”
Minister of Lands and Physical Planning Tkatchenko said the partnership between his electorate and NCD had lasted for more than six years.
The minister, with the help of the governor, has also funded 50 teachers of Moresby South to undergo computer training.
