TWO men allegedly involved in a K76,000 robbery at a shop in West New Britain have been arrested by police.
Kimbe police station commander Daniel Yangen told The National that the suspects were identified through a photo they had uploaded on Facebook right after the robbery at Kapiura Trading on May 5 at 8am.
“We apprehended the two of them last Wednesday May 9 and charged them with armed robbery,” he said. Yangen said the suspects had fled with their loot to a location outside town. They then took a picture of themselves with the money they stole, and posted it on Facebook.
“According to the footage at the shop, six men entered and stole the bag of money in one of the offices in the store and got away in a hired vehicle,” he said.
He said the money was supposed to be taken to the bank on Friday.
“Six men armed with homemade guns and bush knife walked into the Kapiura Trading, held up the store cashiers, took the money which was the takings of both Friday and Saturday,” Yangen said.
“We identified more than nine of them through the Facebook post. But only two were arrested last Wednesday.”
Police hope to arrest the others soon.
