TEWAI-SIASSI MP Dr Kobby Bomareo oversaw the passage of two legislations yesterday in Parliament for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea (ELCPNG).
The ELCPNG Amendment Bill 2022, which oversees the governing of the church and the Lutheran University of PNG Bill 2022, which formally recognises the recently accredited Lutheran University in Morobe, were passed by majority.
Amendments to the Act introduced new sections recognising Jesus Christ as the head of the church and placing the term head before the term bishop.
“ELCPNG is governed by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea Act 1991 and since its passage, no amendment has been made to the Act in the last 31 years despite a number of administrative and structural changes that the church has undergone,” Bomareo said.
