TWO men were attacked on Sunday in Mt Hagen allegedly by a candidate who unsuccessfully contested in Southern Highlands.
Philip Ricky and Boas Asuma said the candidate and his supporters attacked them in a guesthouse where they were staying.
Police could not be reached to confirm the attack.
But Ricky and Asuma said they were on their way to Chimbu to take a dead relative from the Kundiawa General Hospital.
They said they were in a guest house when the candidate drove in with eight supporters around 6pm and attacked them. They were put into the vehicle and were driven along the highway towards Chimbu.
However, Asuma managed to jump off the vehicle and escaped. Realising this, the men then decided to leave Ricky at the guest house and left.
They claimed they were also robbed of more than K5,000 in cash.
Two of their relatives Amos Ropanda and Ben Kuruma condemned the attack saying losing candidates should accept the result of the election in the electorate.
Ropanda and Kuruma said they wanted the candidate and his supporters to explain why they attacked Ricky Asuma.
They will lodge a formal complaint with the police once them men had recovered. Ricky is admitted at the Kundiawa general hospital while Asuma is recovering at home.
Attempts to get in touch with the Kundiawa general hospital were unsuccessful yesterday.
