Two policemen facing charges over sexual abuse

TWO policemen are facing separate charges relating to recent cases of sexual abuse, with a senior police officer saying everyone must be treated equally under the law.
Police commander for the National Capital District and Central Anthony Wagambie Jr said members of the Constabulary were expected to abide by the law that they had been entrusted to enforce.
“Regardless of who it is, we are all bound by the same laws. And if suspected of breaking the law, we must go through the same process as any other citizen,” he said.
Assistant police commissioner Wagambie said the two members of the constabulary were charged on two separate incidents relating to sexual abuse. “The first incident was reported to police and occurred during the Independence Day weekend at East Boroko in Port Moresby,” he said.
“The member is attached with the Police Air Wing and was charged with one count of unlawful sexual penetration.
“The second incident involved a policeman at the Red Sea Barracks who sexually abused his under-aged daughter at the barracks last week. He was also formally arrested and charged.”
He escaped police arrest last week and was held at Jackson International Airport domestic terminal yesterday as he was attempting to board a flight out of Port Moresby.
