THE National Court in Kokopo sentenced two men in East New Britain to three years each in prison for stealing a 40-horse power outboard motor engine worth K12,583 belonging to a school in the Duke of York Islands.
Alex Tinut, 29 and Kelly Naseli, 24, both from Kumaina village in the Duke of York Islands, on Oct 19, 2015, went to the Ramoaina Technical High School premises and stole the engine at around midnight.
Justice Salatiel Lenalia told the two prisoners that their case was serious, warranting them to be served custodial penalties.
“The punishment served on the two should have effect.
“The end result of rehabilitating the offenders will make it safe for their community but most importantly the Ramoaina Technical High School,” Lenalia said.
The court ordered a reconciliation to take place between all parties involved. The court also ordered that the two offenders pay K1000 each to the school within two months.
