Two soldiers face murder charges

TWO soldiers have been charged with wilful murder, while a third is awaiting further interrogation, over the assault and eventual death of a senior police officer on Saturday in Port Moresby.
Assistant Police Commissioner Anthony Wagambie Jnr, the police commander for the National Capital District and Central, said the two soldiers were detained at the Bomana Prison after a warrant of remand was obtained from the court.
One, a commissioned officer aged 47, and the other aged 30, lived with their families at the Kiki Barracks in Port Moresby.
The late Senior Inspector Andrew Tovere, recently appointed the Zone Three police commander in Port Moresby, was allegedly assaulted by off-duty soldiers and later died at the Port Moresby General Hospital on Saturday.
Wagambie was invited yesterday morning to address soldiers during a parade at the Murray Barracks, before the three soldiers were brought to the Boroko police station by the military police.
“I was given the opportunity to speak to the soldiers and after the parade, we escorted the three suspects involved in late Tovere’s murder to the Boroko police station at around 10am,” Wagambie said.
“The three suspects were handed over by the military police and processed at the Boroko police station.”
He assured members of the defence force and residents of Port Moresby that normal police operations were continuing.
“Both the (assault and eventual death) and the subsequent confrontation at ATS were unfortunate,” Wagambi said.
He assured the military hierarchy at the parade that the security of the three soldiers were guaranteed. PNGDF commander Maj-Gen Gilbert Toropo said they would continue to work together with the police on national security matter.
Military police director Lt-Col Ivan Timo said the relationship between the two disciplined forces remained strong.

Arrest those three culprits for life imprisonment.
Until proven guilty by the court of law, they have the right to an attorney.

How will you be proven guilty when you already did an offence? It means you are already guilty of the offence you did? Can you reverse the time and brought back the life of a person you take? is that means the policeman is not dead but living somewhere waiting for the court to prove the culprit guilty and he will die? Please someone need to review the law of this land.
Very true. How can be proven guilty when he had committed murder. Unrealistic. They are murderers. Assult is an understatement for this case. Very crooked officers did this.
Give similar incidents in the past involving soldiers there appear to be some disciplinary issues with our soldiers, so that needs to be addressed once this murder issue resolve. Perhaps relocate the Murray and taurama barracks to manus or bougainville islands or vanimo where there can provide effective border patrol and stop these serious incidents in pom..

Presence of the deceased was sinister and at odd hours. besides their are many side stories attached, something peculiar prompted his dead, check balance first. Then make your sound decision, regardless dead or alive is the nature of police brutality which is countless and will continue. this incident is rare to a police man. but police to general citizen is countless. your call mate.
