The Papua New Guinea Football Association is throwing its support behind the girl’s U-15 squad which will represent the country at the Youth Olympic Games.

The side have begun strength and conditioning training under the guidance of trainer Mae Koime as they prepare for the Games to be held in Nanjing, China in August.

From April 14-18, head coach Margaret Aka and PNGFA technical director Taku Niebo, hosted a training camp at the National Sports Institute in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province.

Papua New Guinea last sent a girl’s team to the Youth Olympic Games in 2010 where they lost out on fifth place to Trinidad and Tobago 4-2 on penalties after the game drew nil-all.

The goal is to improve on that performance, with hopes that this camp, and the upcoming ones, will provide the edge Papua New Guinea needs to achieve that.
