THE United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has come on board in assisting the Climate Change Development Authority (CCDA) in implementing the building resilience on climate change (BRCC) projects.
This was revealed during a welcome brief at Karawara Island in the Duke of York Islands local level government, Kokopo, East New Britain (ENB), last week by UNDP deputy team lrader Bensolo Ken.
Ken said UNDP had signed memorandum of agreement with CCDA to implement the output one and output two of the BRCC projects following up last year’s programme.
He said the two main focus areas was to come up with harzard mapping data, including prioritising areas under adaptation option plan that could be identified from their assessment.
Ken said these sub projects would be implemented for each specific site that would be assessed as vulnerable to climate change.
He said the team had visited Manus and Morobe and were in ENB and plan to visit the Autonomous Region of Bougainville and Milne Bay next year.
Ken said UNDP was pleased to support the Government to make sure the BRCC projects were delivered on time to the five provinces that were feeling the effect of climate change.
The team visited the four atolls of Duke of York, including Karawara, Utuan, Mioko Palpal and Mualim where the output one and two of the projects would be established.
