MORE discussions on climate action and green economy transition are expected to continue in PNG with the arrival of United Nations assistant general secretary and development programme (UNDP) regional director for Asia and the Pacific, Kanni Wignaraja, in Port Moresby this week.
According to UNDPA, Wignaraja would meet Prime Minister James Marape to have a series of discussions along with senior Government ministers during her four days in the country.
She would address the country during the policy dialogue on climate action and green economy transition at the APEC Haus.
According to a statement, the discussions under the theme, “Post COP27 climate round table – From policy to action: Papua New Guinea leading the green economy transition” would showcase how the country’s potential for a transition towards a green and blue economic development pathway, working in partnership with the natural environment, can result in a more prosperous and equitable PNG for future generations.
“The dialogue will discuss and highlight the country’s potential for a green and blue economic transition as a necessary development pathway to ensure property and well-being for all people,” the statement said.
Wignaraja would then be accompanied by UNDP PNG resident representative Dirk Wagener to Southern Highlands to interact with communities engaged in the UNDP-led UN Highlands joint programme.
