TRAINING conducted recently by the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef) Australia in collaboration with Alotau Catholic education agency aims at putting up early childhood training development centres.
The two-day training was aimed at putting up 12 development centres in four parishes in Alotau.
These centres will prepare children between the ages of three to five years to enter the school system.
According to Bishop Rolando Santos, the education of children from the earliest age should never be neglected.
“Early childhood development is so crucial, such that the future of a child depends heavily on the kind of education he or she receives early in life,” he said.
“This should be done with much care and love.
“It should also be holistic, and include the spiritual.
“As Jesus said, ‘Let the little children come to me’ (Luke 18:16).”
The first training was held from June 18-29 at the Diocesan Community Center, Alotau.
It was for those who will be teaching the children.
The second training was held from July 18-21 July for members of the boards of management. Twenty-four participants took part in each of the training sessions.
