Union wants nurses to get government housing deal

THE welfare of nurses is important because of their roles in healthcare which the Government should recognise by giving them accommodation, a trade union official says.
The acting national president of the PNG Nursing Association, Steven Nawik, stressed this at a meeting organised to present the 2017 Nurses Symposium Report to the public service ministry.
“If the government is saying we are doing life-caring roles and responsibilities, they have to take care of our welfare,” he said.
“Most of our nurses rent rooms in the settlements. How then does the government expect us to take care of the sick when they can’t take care of us?”
Recommendations outlined in the report were compiled during the 2017 nurses’ symposium held in Kokopo, East New Britain. Accommodation for nurses was one of the recommendations.
