A DECISION by Frabelle’s headquarter in the Philippines to allow striking employees and union members to resume work has been welcomed by trade
unionist Tom Vevo.
Frabelle workers, including the 60 union members who were sacked, were allowed back to work on Wednesday.
The workers had complained about poor working conditions and violation of local labour and industrial laws which received wide media publicity.
It is believed a company executive flew into the country from Manila for talks over the matter with the management of the Lae-based fishing company
resulting in the workers
being allowed to resume work.
Vevo, principal of Virco Ltd and a veteran unionist, who has been responsible for setting up various workers’ unions around the country, thanked the company for allowing the workers back and requested them to
stop further threats
against the workers.
He also apologised to the provincial labour and industrial relations division for
his outburst against its officers.
