Unitech online applications now open

Education

THE Papua New Guinea University of Technology’s online applications are now open, says deputy vice-chancellor Garry Sali.
Sali said students would not be sitting entry tests, but so long as they were able to meet the requirements, then they would be able to enrol at the institution under different programmes it offered.
“At the moment, the applications are open now, and students are able to apply according to the eight academic programmes. We are offering communication for development, property studies, construction management, applied mathematics, applied economics, business in accountancy, business in IT and business in management,” he said.
“It is integrated fully online, where students are able to stay in different centres around the country and they can take the same degree programme here at university.”
Vice-chancellor Dr Ora Renagi said online courses were the same as the ones that were offered on-campus, which would be studied for four years.
The courses will run parallel, and after four years, they (online students) will join the on-campus students for graduation.
Renagi said the university received only about 800 students every year due to quota limitations and most students were left out.
“There are students who are qualified to come here, but the quota is cutting them out,” he said.
“These are the ones we want to reach through online.
“They can still go online and access lectures through the internet.
“They will pay only tuition fees, and save costs to travel – travel for graduation only.”
The university started online courses last year and this year, it will be running its second batch programme.
