THE United Brothers club is primed to win the Port Moresby men’s fast pitch softball tournament, says an official.
Brothers were the inaugural champions of the 2022 Easter Cup challenge held in April.
Brothers coach Tony Daple said the team aimed to maintain its title as the champions of POM MSA.
United was among 10 other teams currently participating in the newly introduced fast (pitch) five tournament.
Coach Daple said United was coping with the new format by POM MSA. He said the team was adjusting to the new rules of the competition.
“It’s not the normal game that we play every weekend,” the coach said.
“We got different scenarios where we play this competition.
“In this fast pitch tournament, we only play for three innings.”
Brothers beat Rotweillers 8-1 during the round games played yesterday at Bisini diamond one.
“Within those couple of innings, we had the opportunity to exercise couple of power plays,” Daple said.
“We were keen to do that and got the win.”
At the moment most of the teams were struggling to adjust to the fast pitch competition.
“Lots of teams are slowly picking up the style of the game,” the coach said.
“They know the scenario but when and how to play it, they’re not too sure about it.”
Daple said United Brothers had been undefeated in the POM MSA competition over the past two years.
“We’ve been a very successful club, producing positive results in POM MSA,” Daple said.
With the inclusion of women in the team, Brothers had kept a clean record, winning the recent Easter Cup tournament.
“The addition of ladies within the team hasn’t been a struggle for us,” he said.
“They continue to maintain the standard with the boys.
“This is something we anticipated, that’s why our team has a good record of claiming the championship tag,” Daple said.
