CENTRAL Governor Kila Haoda presented K50,000 to the Rabuka United Reform Church  to help extend the Kingdom of God in the Kairiku-Hiri area of Central province.
Haoda said churches were an important partner in service delivery and the  Government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Peter O’Neill, was putting strong emphasis on partnering with them.
“In Central, we acknowledge and support the work of churches that are our key partners in delivering services to our people,” Haoda said.
“Likewise, in other parts of the country, churches are there in some places, especially remote communities, where the Government cannot reach and that is very important, and whenever necessary we will support the churches.”
Haoda said the Government was facing times  because of the financial situation it was in.
“The Government revenue has dropped and this has affected all of us,” he said.
“For Central, like other provinces, we received K5 million for each district.
“But for this year, we received only half and just recently, the Treasury Department  released another K1 million so when the funding is available, we will pay to the church to assist them in their programmes and activities.”
He also presented six sewing machines, two each to a women’s group, the Assembly of God church and Butuka elementary school.
Haoda said, empowering women is one of their key objective.
“We want to empower women because they are the backbone of a family, a society and a country.
“Under our education programme, we sent three young girls to pilot school and they have completed and obtained commercial pilot licence and one is employed by Air Niugini and the other one is employed by PNG Air.”
