THE United club in the Port Moresby Cricket Association are running junior development trials at the Amini Park.
The club started off last week, with cricketers below the age of 12 taking part.
Former Barramundis and Cricket Papua New Guinea (CPNG) high performance manager Rarua Dikana, pictured, took charge of the event which saw a good turnout.
Among the youngsters was six-year-old Siaka Daure Jr who followed his parents to participate in the trials.
Daure’s father praised the club and CPNG for helping develop young cricketers.
“It shows that Cricket PNG is serious in developing our juniors in such programmes,” Daure Senior said.
“Rarua Dikana is doing a fantastic job to involve these young cricketers so in the future, they can be our national representatives with the Barramundis.
“My son always talks about cricket and that is why I want brought him to take part in the trials.
“His favourite Barramundi is Lega Siaka, who is also his uncle, and his got a picture of his uncle in his bedroom and before he goes to sleep at night he tells us that he wants to be like him one day,” he said.
“Every time after Lega plays, my son asks him how many runs he made in that game.”
Siaka is one of the Barramundis leading batsmen and can bat from opening to No.5.
