COMPETITION leaders United maintained their number one spot in the Port Moresby men’s hockey competition despite a 1-1 all draw with Sunam Blacks on Saturday.
Led by captain Andrew Raoma and assisted by brother Keith Raoma, David Tapo, Stanley Solien, United played a very strong game against Sunam Blacks.
After a scoreless opening half, both teams came back strongly to score one goal apiece in the second half for the draw.
Sunam Blacks may have done better had they had been better organised rather than spending time complaining.
Sunam’s key player Michael Pomat escape suspension for using un-sportsman-like language against a United player.
Powaseu Kusunan, Polin Potuan, Lofena Raga and the only overseas player in the local competition, Sanjay Ravsan, played well for Sunam.
In the other men’s match played on Saturday, United beat Bismark Gold 1-0. On Sunday, Sunam Gold proved too strong, thrashing Bismark Green 4-0 and Bladez edged out Seagulls 3-2. In the women’s competition, Blades thrashed Golden Eagles 3-0 while Wanderers beat Bismarck 2-0 on Saturday.  The ever improving MVP beat United 1-0 while Sunam drew with Seagulls 1-1 on Sunday.
