THE University of Natural Resources and Environment (UNRE) in East New Britain recently established a School of Environment and Climate Change.
The new school will work in line with UNRE’s strategic plans with dean Prof Dan Frederick Orcherton, saying, the school has big development plans as well.
“My plan is to see where the school could be at and where we want to go and from there we will work alongside UNRE strategic plans,” Orcherton said.
The School of Environment and Climate Change incorporates forestry and research conservation, climate change and environment, environmental law departments with Orcherton to design courses for each.
“Course levels will range from diploma to degree and masters as we don’t want to discourage anyone from applying to the school, we will try to enrol as many students as we can,”
Orcherton said priority would be given to students from within the New Guinea Islands (NGI) region.
“We also want to encourage people from different levels within East New Britain as well as mainland provinces to come and study at UNRE under this school,” he said.
He said climate change was a major issue affecting the country and there needed to be more people trained in this area.
