THE University of Goroka (UoG) says school leavers who have secured government scholarships can study at its newly established campus in Maprik, East Sepik.
Chancellor Joseph Sukwianomb said the university’s Maprik campus would offer diploma (three years) programme in agriculture and rural development starting this year.
The campus was opened recently at Bainyik, formerly the Sepik Agriculture College.
Sukwianomb said setting up the campus in Maprik was part of its ‘gown to town’ policy.
He said they had 100 spaces for school leavers and self-sponsors who had to be living off campus.
He said they would be able to accommodate students on campus next year onwards.
“Upon the successful completion of the programme in 2023, the top 20 per cent of the students will be selected to advance on to bachelor of agriculture degree programme,” Sukwianomb said.
“Around 50 school leavers who secured government scholarships who wish to study at Bainyik would be accepted.”
Maprik MP John Simon described the opening of the Sepik Bainyik campus as a dream which eventually came true.
“It’s a dream I had four years ago, I was happy when UoG decided to to set up a campus here,” he said.
Simon said over the years, he had made several submissions to higher education and education departments for a university campus to be established in his district.

  • Congrats to UOG for the setting up of the Sepik Bainyik campus! Please ensure that it is staffed by qualified people and well supported to delivered to the people> Many campuses already established for distance education have miserable failed due to unqualified tutors and lack of ongoing support for students, especially in learning and teaching resources, slow process in feedback to assignments and accreditation!
