Unused funds to be used for projects, says administrator

GAZELLE’S services improvement programme (DSIP) funds for previous years will be rolled over for major projects this year, says district administrator Hubert Wangun.
“The district did not fully utilise its development budget last year or the previous years,” he said.
He said in this year’s development budget, funds for 2019 and 2020 had been factored in to be utilised for resolutions made by the district development board.
“This is a major challenge for the administration but we are settling some priorities to guide us focus on projects with the greatest impact to the community and better economic returns,” Wangun said.
“We established our procurement committee during the last quarter of last year to help us procure and implement the projects in strict compliance with the Public Finance Management Act.
“We are also setting up an implementation and management monitoring system to help the administration track progress and address issues and risks associated with projects.”
He said the Covid-19 pandemic was among major factors that contributed to the delay in implementing projects in the district.
