PARADISE Foods Ltd has received a petition from its unvaccinated employees in Lae and is looking at addressing those issues as best as it can, says chief executive officer Ben Wong.
He told The National yesterday that the company had its own workplace policy in relation to the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
“Since the petition that was presented to the Lae office by employees there, until now, most of the workers are back at work,” Wong said.
He said the company had looked into the issues that they had put forward and was in the process of addressing them in accordance with the company’s workplace policy.
“We respect their rights either to take the jab or not, it is up to them,” he said. “But we have obligations to keep the work place safe for all.”
He said no jab, no job is not what the company was looking at as it had its own policy to address Covid-19 issues.
Wong said the issues highlighted in the petition were internal matters that the administration was working on to have them resolved with the disgruntled employees
On Tuesday, all unvaccinated employees presented a three-page petition to the Lae office outlining areas in their employer’s workplace policy that they thought did not suit them.
Contained in their six-point petition, were concerns raised claiming that the unvaccinated employees had been victimised in relation to the company’s workplace policy and/or would be missing out on some benefits that those employees who were vaccinated would benefit from.
Spokesperson representing the unvaccinated employees Leki Henry said they decided to come up with the petition in relation to some points in the Covid-19 policy like downsizing manpower.
