UOG allows students onto campus after masks given out

A GROUP of students initially barred from entering the University of Goroka campus were later allowed in after they were given face masks.
Pro Vice-Chancellor (planning and development) Donald Gumbis handed out 6,000 faces masks to be distributed to the students who were denied access to classrooms and the library because they were not wearing any. Five thermometers were also provided.
Gumbis said it was part of the university’s Covid-19 committee’s preparedness plan.
“The onus is now on academic staff and security officers to enforce the rules on students,” he said.
“So far, we have screened 5,177 students – 3,691 non-residential and 1,486 residential.
“Most have been cleared but we also identified other existing medical conditions among students.”
An Eastern Highlands health authority team, which visited the university, was impressed with surveillance, quarantine and medical support to ensure student safety.

  • Prevention is better than Cure. Its all about lives and not pleasing the University Management by wearing a mask and presenting your card to access basic services at the campus. Professional Elites must adhere to instructions and not to disobey orders. Its for our own benefits and well being.
Thank Pro Vice Chancellor Policy and Planning, Mr. Donald Gumbis for playing your part in ensuring that all students get a mask to wear. Students the ball is in your court. Obedience is better than Sacrifice. Wear the mask at your own risk
