DESPITE being the runner-ups of the inaugural Jonah Lomu Legacy Cup, the Black Orchids from the Autonomous Region of Bougainville were satisfied with the newly-upgraded Bava Park facility.
Black Orchids coach Kelly Havara said after the game that his players had been looking forward to using the facility.
He said that making it to the grand final was an achievement despite going down to the Lae Hammerheads.
“Playing in such a field is a great experience for the team. Now that rugby union and sevens have a venue like this, it will boost players to perform at a standard never seen before and that is what we have seen during the tournament,” Havara said.
“Obviously, we don’t have such facilities back home in Bougainville but that’s not the point because having such facility here in PNG, especially Port Moresby, will provide the motivation for players from outside areas to aspire to enjoy,” he said
Havara said the feedback from the men’s and women’s side of playing at the Bava Park was “very positive” and they would still continue to travel and participate in seven’s tournaments around the country.
“The men loved it, I loved it and we will definitely come back.”
Havara congratulated the Lae Hammerheads for their being one of the dominant sides in sevens this year.
“My boys did well even though we lost but I congratulate the Hammerheads because they have been a very strong side all year round.”
