UPNG refutes claims fight related to murder

THE University of PNG (UPNG) has refuted claims that a fight among students on Monday was related to the murder of Timothy Wagambie over the weekend.
UPNG public relations manager Jim Robins confirmed that there was a fight but refused to provide further details.
He said he knew the late Timothy’s father very well and that what happened to Timothy had nothing to do with UPNG.
“If there was subsequent payback and people here choose to take up the cause then it is their personal decision based on their origins and I have no comment on that,” he told The National.
“I believe there was an altercation yesterday but it was dealt with.
“We have many altercations here on a regular basis for many reasons, but Uniforce put those to bed very quickly.”
Robins said no one was injured or any property damaged.

  • How could a fight erupt at a higher learning institution triggered by a death that occurred due to street fighting amongst youths at Gerehu? Probably those who took the fight to the university were involved so police must investigate them!

  • Many students are studying here at the UPNG. Most of the student are good students. however, among the good ones there is always are reckless and rogue ones who continuously tarnish the good name of the institutions.
