THE United States has begun the process of reviving and strengthening its relationship with the Oro government.
In a recent trip to the province, US Ambassador to Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu, Erin McKee said her government had a historical relationship with Oro.
McKee said her courtesy visit of the province and to its historical sites was an initial step in rebuilding and strengthening the relationship that had been established 75 years ago.
She spent two days in Oro to better understand how service delivery was implemented from the national and provincial governments and to the people.
The purpose of her visit was to see how best the US government could support development for the people of Oro.
Ambassador McKee met with the Oro assembly members including Northern Governor Gary Juffa.
Governor Juffa said it was an honour to host a US delegation.
“People appreciated Ambassador McKee’s visit, it motivated them, especially people in the historical sites like Buna, Kokoda and Tufi,” he said.
“The US government still cares for the people of PNG, especially Oro.”
