Use guidelines to award contracts

Letters

IT is interesting following the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Inquiry into the procurement and supply of medical drugs and supplies in the country.
The PAC was supposed to visit Lae this week but didn’t due to funding issues.
There are many irregularities about these medical contracts.
Some contractors do not have the experience, the facilities and proper skills in managing medical logistics.
For example, the contractor engaged in supplying medical drugs to the New Guinea Islands does not have proper storage facilities and is operating in an ad-hoc basis.
Medical kits are stored in the same containers used to freight them from Port Moresby and there are no fencing securing the containers.
Anybody can break in and steal the medical kits.
The medical kits exposed to extreme heat.
Should we have proper storage to house the medical kits?
When awarding contracts, there should be strict guidelines or requirements for contractors to meet.
To take back PNG, give the contracts to genuine people.
