Use police stations, not social media: Cop

PORT Moresby residents should register all criminal complaints at police stations rather than on social media, says National Capital District Metropolitan Supt Perou N’dranou.
N’dranou said this after recent crimes were posted on social media without any indication of whether the crimes were reported to police.
He said social media was an informative platform that people used but they had to understand that police would not take any action until a formal complaint was made at the station.
N’dranou also said that only legal evidence would be presented in court if a complaint was registered.
“We do not do policing on social media, the foundation of policing starts at the police station.
“And that is where police investigation starts,” he said.
“By reporting to a police station, you maintain the integrity of the evidence you give and it is not contaminated.
“When you go to the court, you need an official and legal document to present and if you report on social media, than there is no evidence.”
N”dranou urged residents to report criminal complaints at their nearest police station because other stations would prioritise complaints in their area and may not quickly respond to other complaints.
