Use wastes to light up villages

Letters

BROWSING through the net, I came across the following message: PNG Power will be conducting major load shedding and disconnection exercises throughout the country this week.
This is a sad commentary from a country which has large potentials of generating power for rural electrification.
The companies from USA, Europe and the Far East show interest when the availability of waste is in huge quantity.
Ask them to install a project to process just 20 tons of garbage per day to 350 tons per day, they will turn back and will never again look at you leaving you to suffer in silence with the garbage getting accumulated on a daily basis.
Transmission of power from a large generation point to a faraway village or commune is a very expensive proposal.
But to generate power using the waste available in and around the village can light up the village and also help them establish a ‘Community Kitchen’ to save on fuel to cook food.
Go to the rural area.
The waste collected at farms.
By waste we mean fallen leaves, twigs, flowers, seeds, bark, branches, straw, stovers, fruits, etc.
Let’s use them to generate power for the village saving on expensive investment on transmission lines and switch yards.
