THE Sports HIV Committee has been running sensitisation sessions with all teams in the Pacific Netball Series to build champions in sport who will advocate against stigma and discrimination and educate other sportsmen and women on their role in preventing the transmission of HIV in PNG and the Pacific.
Seruwaia Vonolagi is one such champion, working among fellow Fijians in HIV issues.
It takes courage, stamina and determination to be a good sportsman and it takes that and even more to be a vocal advocate in response to HIV/AIDS.
The workshop was a success through the HIV Prevention through Sport Committee, with the support from the National AIDS Council Secretariat.
Vonolagi is an elite sportswoman and had made a choice to carry out awareness among her peers by using sport as a tool.
The HIV Prevention through Sport Committee encourages Papua New Guinean athletes to make a wise choice in the response to HIV/AIDS and to use their influence and join in the response against HIV/AIDS.
