ONE success story of the government initiated private-public partnership programme is the handing over of eight new police houses and two new 10-seater vehicles for Walium police last Friday.
Usino-Bundi MP Anton Yagama, in thanking all stakeholders involved, labelled Usino Bundi as “the only resource rich electorate in the country”.
The ceremony, held at Walium was attended by Vice-Minister for Mining Wera Mori, Police Minister Nixon Duban, Peter Dendle of Marengo Mining; MCC executive vice-president  Gu Yuxiang; Mineral Resource Authority (MRA), National Planning and Treasury officials and members of the provincial government.
When cutting the ribbon and handing over the keys, Mori said all citizens needed to support companies in the extractive industries as they were the ones bringing about changes now taking place in the
country.
He said mining accounted for 60% of the gross domestic product and cooperation among all stakeholders in bringing about much-needed changes to the rural areas was what people needed to see.
He commended MCC, Marengo Mining, state line agencies, particularly finance and MRA, for their interest and cooperation.
The eight new police houses three at Usino station and five at Walium were built at a cost of K1.6 million by a locally-owned landowner company, Maigari Inland Landowner
Association.
Yagama said the onus was on the people to look after government-owned properties.
He also presented a cheque for K2 million to the provincial works to continue work on the Banu-Brahman road.
