USINO-Bundi in Madang is the first district in the country to present its five-year development plan with a budget of over K200 million to the National Planning and Monitoring Department.
National Planning acting secretary Koney Samuel commended MP Jimmy Uguro and the district leadership for taking the initiative to submit their plans on Friday.
“We are happy to receive the five-year development for your district and your people,” Samuel said.
“You are the first member to bring in your district development plan and we will get our team to review and vet the plan.
“We are in the process of putting together the medium-term development plan three (MTDP 3) for the country 2018 to 2022.
“We would like to see all the district development plans and the provincial development plans aligning with MTDP 3 priorities.
“Given that you have already presented your district plans, we look forward to having the plans reviewed and we will come back to you on the feedback.”
Samuel said the government priority was clear in terms of the next five years and the government was putting the economic road as the number one priority.
“We are expecting all the districts throughout the country to align with government and look at some key investments in agriculture, tourism and fisheries so they will help generate internal revenue,” he said.
“We cannot wait for government alone; it can only provide certain funding level given the size of the demand.”
Uguro, while acknowledging the appointment of Samuel as acting secretary for the department, said the plan covered all aspects of development.
“It is aligned with the medium term development strategy for national government and Vision 2050,” he said.
“This plan is originally designed by the people and is best suited in the environment.”
