THE number of people getting Coronavirus (Covid-19) vaccination in Port Moresby is increasing, National Capital District Health Authority expended immunisation officer Sr Janet Pongone says.
“When we started giving out vaccinations, not many people came to be vaccinated. We had fewer than 20 a day but now we are vaccinating about 50 daily,” she said at the launching of a mobile vaccination campaign yesterday.
“We have Johnson and Johnson and AstraZeneca vaccines being rolled out by the Health Department.
“For the AstraZeneca vaccines, it comes in two doses.
“That means you will get the first dose and wait for eight to 12 weeks for the second dose.
“But for Johnson and Johnson, it is a single dose to be fully vaccinated,” she said.
“Currently, we have 12 sites rolling out the vaccines.
“We have a team at Lawes Road Clinic which is looking after the Moresby South District and a North West team based in Gerehu Hospital.
“We also have the Vision City team looking after the North East District.
“The others are the Rita Flynn Team (comprising six units), with three units looking after the first dose and the other three units capturing those seeking their second dose.
“There is also a big team in Rita Flynn and we are opening other sites and health facilities. Right now, we are here in Waigani Central partnering with Stop and Shop, and others as well.”
