THE Global Alliance for Vaccine Initiative (Gavi) Alliance Mission delegation yesterday visited Lae and Huon Gulf districts to demonstrate its commitment to PNG.
The team of 16 visited the Butibum Health Centre, Abong Settlement at Malahang, Morobe Provincial Drug Store, and Wampar Health Centre in Huon Gulf.
Deputy Health Secretary Dr Paison Dakulala said it was a privilege for Papua New Guinea for the Gavi delegation to visit.
“We need good vaccines and very cheap vaccines to enable us to reach our communities.
“For years Gavi had been a very important support for us.
“We do hope it will continue in terms of giving us the best vaccines and best prices so we can immunise our people.
“I think it’s important that we see what’s happening in Morobe and Lae. The government had made declaration two weeks ago in terms of the polio situation in the country and a campaign has been initiated for us to reach out to the Morobe, Madang and Eastern Highlands.”
Dakulala said the Gavi team and other partners coming to the country were important.
