A MAN was killed when a vehicle toppled and rolled down a mountainside, injuring five people who were airlifted by Manolos Aviation to Angau Memorial Hospital on Sunday.
Three children who sustained minor injuries were Niniten Mai, 9, her brother Manu Mai, 11, and Qwinnie Sapenu, 10.
They were treated at the Torowa health centre, Erap and Angau, and discharged on Monday.
Kabwum MP Patrick Bassa sent a vehicle that repatriated the body of the dead, Robin Kairi, a mechanic from the University of Technology to the 14-Mile Funeral Home.
Trade store owner Mai Peter, from Lovai II in Upper-Erap, Nawaeb, who sustained minor injuries, said his store goods worth K1,100 were in the incident.
Peter said he took his niece (Sapenu) to Angau and left behind his two children Mai and Niniten at Torowa after being treated.
It was alleged that 23 passengers were travelling on Yus Civil Works (YCW) truck when it broke down at Dangki Creek near Wemang Hamlet at Nimara.
Bassa’s media relations officer Gabriel Jamine told The National that Bassa assured in their meeting on Monday that Kabwum administration and MP’s office would take full responsibility of haus krai, funeral, repatriation and burial costs.
“Bassa sent his sincere condolences to the family of late Kairi.”
