A WOMAN living in a settlement and who was assisted by Anglicare PNG with K3400 worth of capital to start a business made a profit and repaid the money on Friday.
The president of Ipa Maropa Cooperative, Wame Irai, 37, from Magarima in Hela, was given a deep-freezer, two ice boxes and seven cartons of Coca-Cola by Anglicare’s Kisim Na Givim programme to support her business.
She used the assets well at her home in 8-Mile Settlement, Port Moresby, made a profit and repaid AngliCare.
The national director of AngliCare, Heni Meke, corporate manager Collin Andamale, programme officer Lupain Pusal and staffer Mary Wapu received the money.
“I used the deep-freezer to store canned soft drinks and used the Eskies to sell the cold drinks at bus stops and markets,” Irai said.
“The aim to reach the targeted amount pushed me to be more committed in my sales and I made more than K3400 within three months.
“I was also helped by the members of Ipa Maropa Cooperative in my sales.
“We worked as a group, which helped us to achieve our target within three months.”
Kisim Na Givim programme officer Pusal said six grassroots women were given financial training and assisted with K3400 in seed capital to trial the programme.
He said Irae was given four months to use the money and assets to make a profit and return the seed-capital to Anglicare PNG.
“Through good support and commitment by members of the cooperative, she made a profit within three months,”Pusal said.
