PORT Moresby and Lae will host the bemobile Cup first qualifying finals this weekend.
PNG National Rugby League  chairman Don Fox said yesterday that Port Moresby would host Toyota Enga Mioks and Agmark Rabaul Gurias in the major preliminary final while in Lae, Bintangor Goroka Lahanis meet SNS Port Moresby Vipers in the sudden death minor preliminaryfinal on Sunday.
The winners of the Port Moresby game will advance to meet minor premiers SBS Mendi Muruks the following weekend while the losers will meet the winners of the Lae game.
Lae’s losers will bow out.
Fox said the two venues were chosen for their security and gate takings.
The Lae rugby league executive applauded the PNGNRL and bemobile Cup board for choosing Lae to host the finals.
“Lae league is the neutral venue to host any finals of the bemobile Cup. Even, Lae can host the grand final or any other international matches,” Lae league secretary Martin Surab said.
Surab said spectators in Lae had been behaving very well all through the season and should continue the trend in the finals.
Meanwhile, Fox is likely to announce the selection of the bemobile Cup side today.
“Selection is done,” he said.
He said a zone select side, which is camping in Lae, would play the bemobile Cup side for a chance to be selected for the Prime Minister’s XIII and Kumuls selection.
The game between the zone side and the bemobile Cup side (comprising players from teams not invloved in the playoffs) is scheduled for Thursday in Port Moresby, however, this is yet to be confirmed.
