THE people of Keapara village, the last ward of Rigo coast local level government area in Central, have described a project on climate change and adaptation as the answer to their prayers.
The village of 2000-plus has been struggling for fresh water which they say was due to the impact of climate change.
Keapara ward councillor Mapa Iga  expressed hope and said the community was fully committed to take ownership of the project to see it completed on time and sustained.
“This is historic for Keapara because we have been struggling for a very long time,” Iga said
“I know many coastal communities in the country are also facing similar struggles and challenges to access fresh water supply and electricity.
“However, we are fortunate to receive such a project and we thank the development partners like the European Union, the German government and the Climate Change and Development Authority for it.”
A  K4.1 million project to reduce the impact of climate change through the provision of a reliable water supply and sustainable energy is funded by the union and implemented in three rural coastal communities in Rigo.
The authority’s projects and adaptation director Jacob Elkinye said the project may seem little in terms of monetary value but it was significant in terms of serving the people Keapara.
