BOATS and outboard motors worth K162,000 will be delivered to villages along the Mamba River in Northern.
The boats will be delivered to Tamata local level government in Sohe district.
Sohe district manager Leon Sime was in Lae on Saturday to see the delivery of the boast and outboard engines. The 11 purchases through the district services improvement programme funds were five 40-horsepower engines, five 23-foot banana boats and one 60HP engine.
However, only four items were supplied because of non-availability of stock, with the rest to be delivered once they arrived.
Sime said that through the chairmanship of Sohe MP Henry John Amuli the items would be given to villages along the Mamba River and Ioma Primary School.
He said the population was around 18,000 and their only mode of transport was boat.
“First five boats and engines were distributed and this is the next set of items that will be distributed to the villages and the school,” Sime said.
“The boats will be used by the villages to provide service delivery to the communities along the Mamba River.”
Ela Motors is giving eight life jackets with every purchase of a 23-foot banana boat.
