Virus focus shifts to borders

STATE of Emergency Controller David Manning says precautions have to be taken at the border areas to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Manning, in a statement, said: “Of concern is the 760km border between PNG and Indonesia. There are now 349 new confirmed Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.
“Fourteen more people have died of the disease in the last 24 hours in Indonesia, bringing the total death toll to 845.
“From the statistics provided by WHO (World Health Organisation), the virus has spread to all 34 of Indonesia’s provinces.
“In Papua, there are 240 confirmed cases.
“The death toll remains at six and recoveries at 48.
“Whilst the daily cases curve is flattening at 2.45 per cent, we are taking all precautions at the border areas to ensure that this does not spread over into PNG.
“We have a strong presence in the northern and southern border provinces as well as Gulf.
“Repatriation of 123 PNG citizens from Jayapura will happen on either Wednesday or Thursday next week. The first lot of 39 PNG citizens will be received at the border by PNG authorities from Vanimo.
“The group comprises 18 illegal border crossers, 15 PNG citizens with expired visas and six Manus people.”

  • True, why bringing stupid people back to the country when we know that they went illegally to the other side.
    Just keep them and have corona to punish them.

  • Charge them for illegally crossing over into Indonesia send them to Bomana send them back to Indonesia charge them under their Laws so that PNG citizens will know it’s not’s not a game to just cross over and back. Send back let Indonesia deal with them.

  • Send them back to Indonesia, no need to entertain them in our country. We are trying our very best to get away with this pandemic disease and those idiots will just make things go even worse.
