THERE is increasing concern from the public about poor policing at the Hilma Wong park and the Voco Point area in Lae after a rise in petty crimes and the killing of a man early last week.

The killing was in broad daylight near the Voco Point police station.

Lae police operations commander Insp Fred Kaiwa said the police dog unit was using the station as its base but they are not there around the clock as they had the whole city to patrol.

He said a few reserve policemen were based at the station.

He warned that criminals were monitoring police movement and attacking people.

He warned the public to report incidences of crime immediately.
